When Ex-Tech Systems needed reliable protection for sensitive RIO cabinets headed offshore, Presserv Norway delivered a tailored preservation solution built to withstand the harshest marine conditions.

When it comes to offshore and marine transport, corrosion and moisture are persistent threats—especially for electronic components. In April, Presserv Norway successfully delivered a comprehensive preservation solution for Ex-Tech Systems, an IKM Group company, by preparing fourteen Remote Input/Output (RIO) cabinets for sea-worthy freight.

These cabinets house sensitive electronics and were destined for environments where reliability isn’t optional—it’s mission-critical. The challenge: ensure robust internal and external protection against corrosion, mechanical damage, and humidity ingress during both transport and potential long-term storage.

A Proven Preservation Approach

Presserv Norway deployed a multi-layered strategy built around Cortec® VpCI® technology, supported by our team’s deep practical expertise and understanding of asset protection under demanding conditions.

Each RIO cabinet was first cleaned and inspected to remove contaminants that could compromise preservation integrity. Internally, VpCI®-emitters (types 101, 105, and 111) were placed to deliver vapor-phase corrosion protection, while desiccant bags were strategically installed to maintain low humidity levels. A light mist of VpCI®-238 provided immediate surface protection.

On the exterior, Acid-Free Petroleum Jelly protected gasket surfaces, and all cable entries and vent points were sealed using VpCI®-126 film and preservation tape. The final step was full encapsulation: aluminum sheeting for mechanical shielding, then heat-shrink wrapping with VpCI®-126 Shrink Film—creating a complete barrier against environmental exposure.

Each unit was tagged with emitter expiration dates to support traceability and future inspection planning—reinforcing our commitment to long-term asset integrity.

Built on Trust and Flexibility

This project reflects a broader collaboration with Ex-Tech Systems, who have worked with Presserv to preserve over 100 RIO cabinets to date.

“Presserv stands out for their flexibility and ability to adapt to our needs—even when deadlines are tight and assignments urgent. They’re solution-oriented and go the extra mile.”

– Jørgen Andersson, Project Leader, Ex-Tech Systems
