Problem

Problem

The client approached Presserv Brazil after discovering active corrosion on ground-mounted distribution transformers installed at a solar power plant in one of Brazil’s most aggressive corrosive environments. Located near the coastline, the site was subject to persistent high salinity, marine corrosion, and harsh atmospheric exposure—ideal conditions for accelerated corrosion in static equipment, structural steel, and electrical components. To make matters more complex, the transformers were distributed across remote, hard-to-access areas, creating logistical challenges for corrosion inspection, preservation management, and material handling. Operational constraints further intensified the challenge. All preservation activities had to be executed exclusively during nighttime hours, the only window when the transformers could be safely de-energized. This required precise planning, strict adherence to safety protocols, and flawless coordination to protect asset integrity while minimizing disruption to power generation. Presserv Brazil, working in close partnership with SIMIC, assumed full responsibility for the project—from corrosion assessment and preservation procedures through execution and final delivery—ensuring safe operations, technical excellence, and on-time completion in a demanding onshore environment.

Application

Application

Presserv Brazil engineered a customized, full-service preservation solution designed to address both existing corrosion and long-term asset protection. The preservation plan combined Cortec® technologies, including VpCI® nanotechnology for chemical corrosion protection, with Stopaq® solutions that provide a permanent mechanical barrier—delivering a layered defense strategy well-suited for corrosive coastal environments and long-term storage conditions. The process began with thorough surface preparation and cleaning using VpCI®-414, an alkaline degreaser that effectively removed salts, contaminants, and residues, ensuring optimal adhesion for subsequent treatments. In areas where corrosion was already active and access was limited, CorrVerter® rust converter primer was applied to chemically stabilize the surface, arrest corrosion progression, and act as a primer for follow-on protection. Critical components showing advanced wear received Easy-Qote®, reinforcing affected areas with durable contact protection while also delivering a consistent, uniform finish after repainting. Fixed bolts, edges, and cavities—common initiation points for crevice and galvanic corrosion—were sealed using Stopaq® Paste CZ. This created a hermetic, oxygen-blocking barrier that interrupted the corrosion process and enhanced long-term protection. Finally, exposed and sensitive surfaces were treated with VpCI®-368, forming a robust wax-like protective film resistant to water, UV exposure, and aggressive atmospheres, making it ideal for temporary protection during ongoing operation and environmental exposure.

Conclusion

Conclusion

All preservation activities were completed without environmental impact or occupational safety incidents, despite the demanding conditions and tight nighttime execution window. By integrating technologies from Cortec® and Stopaq® along with Presserv Brazil’s specialized preservation expertise, the project successfully addressed corrosion failures, restored asset integrity, and improved long-term reliability of the transformers. Our solution extended equipment service life, supported asset reliability, and reduced future corrosion risks in a highly aggressive marine environment. Operational challenges were effectively managed, deadlines were achieved, and the client expressed strong satisfaction with both the technical performance and quality of service delivered. Presserv Brazil remains committed to providing high-performance preservation solutions that protect industrial assets, support operational continuity, and contribute to sustainable corrosion management across Brazil’s energy sector. Special thanks to José Pedrosa for his exemplary coordination, and to the SIMIC team, our commercial partner responsible for local support.
