As governments across the globe are accelerating their onshore and offshore wind projects – The Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) expects 680 GW of wind capacity to be added between 2023 and 2025.
There is now a compelling requirement for EPC contractors, farm owners, OEM’s and fabrication facilities to ensure equipment is suitably protected from manufacture, in transit and in storage, prior to commissioning.
Good practice from the oil and gas industry is where project and operational equipment, components and spares are protected against corrosion and degradation by the implementation of a preservation management system. This ensures that delivered equipment to warehouses, yards or marshalling areas is adequately protected during this critical period.
The advantage of deploying a preservation management programme, is that it takes away all the risk of corrosion related repair and replacement costs and removes the risk of time overruns.
By utilising Vapour phase Corrosion Inhibitor technology (VpCI), all mechanical, electrical and structural components will remain corrosion free for up to 2-years in transit and storage. VpCI’s are applied inside void spaces, in rotating equipment and installed as emitters inside electrical enclosures. Critical faces and bolted areas can also be protected using VpCI waxes and lubricating greases. Individual components, both large and small, can be protected using VpCI shrink films.
