Problem

Problem

Presserv was engaged to carry out full-service preservation of fourteen Remote Input/Output (RIO) cabinets in preparation for sea-worthy freight. These cabinets, housing sensitive electronic components, required both internal and external protection to ensure asset integrity during transport and potential long-term storage. The primary challenge was to safeguard against corrosion, moisture ingress, and mechanical damage—common threats in offshore and marine logistics environments. Given the critical nature of these components, the preservation strategy had to meet stringent standards for reliability and durability.

Application

Application

To begin, all fourteen RIO cabinets underwent thorough inspection and cleaning to remove contaminants that could compromise preservation. Internally, Presserv deployed a multi-layered corrosion protection system. Desiccant bags were strategically placed to control humidity, while VpCI®-emitters (VpCI®-101, 105, and 111) were installed to provide vapor-phase corrosion protection for the electronic components. A light mist of VpCI®-238 was applied to deliver immediate corrosion inhibition. Externally, the preservation team applied Acid-Free Petroleum Jelly to gasket surfaces to prevent degradation. Cable entries and ventilation points were sealed using VpCI®-126 film and red fabric preservation tape, ensuring airtight protection. The cabinets were then fully encapsulated in aluminum sheeting for mechanical shielding. As a final measure, each unit was heat-shrunk using VpCI®-126 Shrink Film, creating a robust barrier against environmental exposure during sea transport. Each cabinet was clearly tagged with expiration dates for the VpCI®-emitters, supporting traceability and future inspection planning.

Conclusion

Conclusion

The preservation of the RIO cabinets was executed with precision, leveraging Presserv’s deep expertise in corrosion prevention and mechanical protection. By combining advanced VpCI® technology with proven preservation procedures, the cabinets are now fully prepared for secure storage or shipment, in line with client requirements. This project underscores Presserv’s commitment to delivering complex preservation solutions that ensure long-term asset reliability—whether for offshore preservation, equipment in transit, or materials in storage. In connection with this project, we received the following testimonial from our customer: Ex-Tech System, an IKM Group company Jørgen Andersson, Ex-Tech System, Project Leader "We have had the pleasure of collaborating with Presserv over an extended period regarding the preservation of electrical cabinets and various EX-protected enclosures.
